SHIPWRECKS
shipwrecks

Currently in the port of Elefsina there are docked 27 abandoned/ unused oil tankers, 22 of them polluting the Elefsinian Gulf and causing environmental damage. Apart from the obvious coastal pollution and the continuing odor, the ships' dead pouch are a public danger as, they often overflow creating a poisonous  mixture of oil residues and rainwater. It is estimated that the pollutants are about 800 tonnes of oil sludge (solid / semi-solid waste) and about 500 cubic meters of slops have to be pumped in liquid form.
